CADBURY WORLDMy friend had the most amazing idea and asked me if I wanted to go to Cadbury world.
There was no hesitation on my answer.
It wasn't even a question, really.
So we went out to Birmingham and the Cadbury factory Bournville. We got to learn about the history of chocolate as well as the history if chocolate especially
in England.
One of the coolest bits was the formation of chocolate houses in the 18th century, where men would come to discuss politics, gamble, and do other manly things as they drank chocolate.
The formation story of Cadbury was also fascinating, because as Quakers Tom? Cadbury was not allowed to sell alcohol so instead sold the 'wholesome alternatives', that is tea, coffee, and drinking chocolate. Experimentation led to even better chocolate and Cadbury as we know it came about. Also their polices towards their workers were way ahead of the times, giving workers things such as sick days and reduced workweeks!!! But the most important thing of course is the life of cadburys chocolate. And boy, what a life!
There was a whole hall dedicated to advertising, including iconic ones such as the pouring milk symbol and the gorilla. However some were not my favorites.
But the candy room/gift shop had ALL of the favorites. also, the candy was at mega-discounted prices because while they may not have met cadbury's rigorous judging standards to be shipped and sold elsewhere, they were still the same delicious chocolate.
This was an interactive floorboard that constantly changed. This one broke up candy as the kids stepped on it. (I was not going to fight kids to play).
SO MUCH CHOCOLATE.
